KAMARA's Director Naomi describes, 'We're honoured to feature a collaboration print with in-demand Yaggerah artist and my Aunty, Jenine Godwin-Thompson. This has been a truly special experience for KAMARA. We draw inspiration from the inspiring creatives around us, and Aunty Jenine is an incredible talent and important figure in my Universe.'
Jenine Godwin-Thompson's artistic journey draws inspiration from her rich cultural heritage, spanning from Meeanjin (Brisbane) to the remote northwest Queensland city of Mount Isa, and the vibrant Aboriginal communities throughout northern and north-western Queensland. Today, she calls Healesville in the beautiful Yarra Valley, Victoria, her home.
Her masterpiece, "Birth of Earth," is the beginning of life in an explosion of colour. Vibrant hues of fuchsia and orange, married with indigo and onyx, are both a celestial dance of stars against a night sky and a reflection of the deep, colourful layers and natural beauty of the earth, which takes care of everything within.
Jenine herself shares, "My work is a heartfelt expression, drawing from my experiences and travels within remote communities. My inspiration comes from both my culture and my passion for spaces, both natural and man-made. 'Birth of Earth' works are my interpretation of the fertility of the earth.'
